Safe Environment Management of Chickens in Autumn and Winter

In the autumn and winter season, the daily temperature and the temperature difference between day and night vary greatly. To ensure that the chickens have a warm and comfortable living environment, the production performance of the chickens will be better, and attention must be paid to the control of temperature, humidity, and ventilation.

Temperature management

The temperature in the house is maintained at 18°C~23°C. The minimum temperature should not be lower than 15°C. In case of windy weather, the tarpaulin should be shaken (according to changes in the outside temperature, half or all of it should be shaken) to prevent the temperature inside the home from suddenly falling. Every day, the size of the air inlet is adjusted according to the weather conditions and the performance of the flock.

The air inlet should be fixed with iron wire or rope firmly to the plastic cloth and plywood, so that the wind blowing upward, do not let the cold wind directly blow chickens, to prevent cold stress caused chicken disease. Do not open the window of the temperature control instrument to prevent the cold air blowing directly to the temperature controller, so that the surrounding temperature does not match the actual temperature in the house. When installing the timed temperature control exhaust fan, select the louvers to be complete. Do not select the north-facing exhaust fan.

Before the winter, clean up the dust from the heater, and make the louver parallel when the heater is first opened, so that the hot air can fill the shed evenly. The gates of the workshop and the gates of the chicken houses should be closed. Do not open them at the same time to prevent the cool air from blowing directly into the house. Observe the flock carefully every day. If the chicken is on the scaffold and the back hair stands, it means the house is too cold. No chickens or chickens were found on the scaffolding or on the ground at the air inlet of the chicken house, indicating that it was cold here. It was necessary to adjust the air inlet or block the air leakage to prevent stress and avoid the onset of chicken colds. Check the exhaust fan belt and motor before work everyday to see if the temperature control exhaust fan is sensitive. Watch the weather forecast every day so that prevention work can be done in advance.

Humidity management

Add litter before winter. Winter litter is relatively dry, and it is often sprayed or spray-disinfected. If there is water under the scaffolds, the water under the scaffolds will be discharged in the autumn when the temperature is high, and then sprinkled with white ash. When the room temperature is appropriate, increase the ventilation. Adjust the nipple drinking line water pressure to less than 10 cm, or adjust the water level of the drinking fountain to less than 1 cm. Always inspect the drinking line. Nipple joints with leaking water in the water dispenser should be replaced or repaired immediately.

If the water leakage from the drinking fountains is to be dealt with promptly, it will prevent the ammonia odor in the house from being excessive due to water leakage and affect the health of the flock.

Ventilation management

In the autumn and winter season, fresh air and slower air flow are better. Before the winter, fix the place where the air should not enter the wind, especially the exhaust air at the exhaust fan must be properly handled to prevent the chickens from becoming ill due to the poor ventilation of the house and the low temperature near the exhaust fan. And it affects production.

When the smell of ammonia in the house is large, the temperature in the house should be increased first, and then the ventilation volume should be increased. When the air in the house is relatively polluted in the morning, if it is necessary to increase the ventilation, it should be gradually increased. It is better to conduct it when the temperature is high at noon. It is better to use short ventilation times and multiple passes each time. Never leave dead corners when ventilating. If you want to increase the number of exhaust fans, you must be cautious. After the increase, carefully observe the performance of the flock and proceed without any adverse reactions.
