After the Lantern Festival, vegetable prices will fall

During the Spring Festival, due to the farmers returning home for the Chinese New Year and the tight transportation, the wholesale price of vegetables entering Shanghai rose as a whole. However, due to Shanghai’s tight supply of vegetable production, the price of leafy vegetables fell instead. According to the information issued by the Municipal Agricultural Committee Information Center, among the 25 vegetable varieties monitored in late January, compared with the mid-term price, the price was 20 litres and 5 drops. The ten-day increase was 10.46% on average. However, the common five green leafy vegetables (green vegetables, chicken feather vegetables, Hangzhou cabbage, lettuce and rice bran) fell by an average of 4.22%. Feather pickled cabbage fell 8.35% in the current ten-day average price of 4.17 yuan / kg; vegetables prices were flat, the average price was 2.27 yuan / kg. The early low-priced dishes had a larger increase this year. The top five were scallions, Chinese cabbage, spinach, cabbage and long kidney beans. The month-on-month increase was 36.12%, 33.96%, 32.43%, 26.67% and 26.6%, respectively. The average prices for the ten days were respectively 3.58 yuan/kg, 0.71 yuan/kg, 6.33 yuan/kg, 0.57 yuan/kg and 9.28 yuan/kg. Due to the fact that some stalls have not yet opened during the festive period, the supply has decreased and the vegetable prices are still high. According to the analysis of experts, the current situation in which there are few high-priced dishes and stalls in the market is only a temporary phenomenon. After fifteenth day of the first month, vegetable prices are likely to fall.

General decline in livestock and poultry products. The five kinds of livestock and poultry products monitored have generally declined. Monitoring data show that after mid-January, the price of pork rose significantly, and it has apparently declined in recent days. It fell by 7.54% month-on-month and the average price was 22.55 yuan/kg. The mutton is stable, which is only 0.77% higher than the end of the month. The prices of chicken, beef, and eggs have dropped back. They were down by 5.73%, 3.50%, and 2.88%, respectively. The average prices for the ten days were 13.50 yuan/kg, 37 yuan/kg, and 9.10 yuan/kg respectively. At present, only eggs are slightly lower than the level of the same period of last year, which fell 2.47% year-on-year. All other varieties are higher than the same period of last year. After the Spring Festival, the consumption of livestock and poultry products should slightly decline, and the decline is still mainly in the near future.
