Young people lack exercise to thicken blood vessel walls

Release date: 2010-09-08

A new study published by the University of Orebro in Sweden shows that if young people lack exercise, their blood vessel walls will thicken significantly, which will increase their risk of cardiovascular disease in the future.
According to media reports here, researchers at Örebro University recently conducted a one-week follow-up survey of 89 young people between the ages of 18 and 37. The researchers first asked these people to wear a pedometer, record the number of steps they walked each day, and then measure the thickness of their arterial wall with ultrasound one week later. It turned out that those young people with less exercise were significantly thicker than those who exercised.
Research project leader Anita Hutig-Wanlov said that previous studies have shown that young people's blood vessel wall will also thicken, but the study for the first time confirmed the direct relationship between blood vessel wall thickening and lack of exercise Association.
To this end, the researchers suggest that young people should be at least half an hour of less vigorous exercise every day, such as walking for half an hour, otherwise the risk of cardiovascular disease will be higher than that of young people who are active in exercise.
