Pig's mineral nutrition

It has been proved that there are about 40 kinds of essential minerals for pigs. According to their contents in pigs, they are divided into two major categories: macroelements and microelements. Elements with a content of 50mg/kg or more are constant elements. The content is expressed in fractions; elements below 50 mg/kg are often trace elements in mg/kg.

The pig needs at least 14 inorganic elements, including the major elements calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), sodium (Na), chlorine (Cl), potassium (K) sulfur (S), magnesium (Mg) and trace element iron (Fe ), Cu, Zn, Mn, I, Se, and Co. In addition, other elements such as As, Br, Cr, B, Cd, F, Pb, Li, Mo, Nickel (Ni), silicon (Si, Sn, and vanadium (V)) may also be necessary for pigs.

The non-mineral feedstuffs of pigs generally contain various mineral elements, but most of the raw materials provided cannot meet the nutritional requirements of pigs, and various vegetal raw materials are affected by water, soil, climatic conditions, and industrial pollution. As well as the effects of variety, production season, and harvest period, there are obvious regional differences. In the production, minerals and trace elements should be reasonably supplemented according to the local conditions.
