110,000 dolls were recalled losing nearly a million dollars

The reporter learned from the South China Sea Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that 110,000 dolls recently processed and produced by a well-known toy company in Nanhai District suffered a recall and lost nearly one million US dollars. The reason for this recall was due to design flaws. The toys had the potential danger of the small parts being produced due to the feet of the doll falling off. For this recall incident, the inspection and quarantine department specifically reminded toy manufacturers to guard against product design risks.

According to the introduction of the South China Sea Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, due to the tightness of the buckles of the toy people recalled, the upper and lower parts can easily fall off from the waist, thus forming small objects, such as the risk of suffocation if swallowed by children. Therefore, toy manufacturers must attach great importance to the safety of product design, should be involved in the design process in advance, in strict accordance with the requirements of ASTM F963 and other standards to exclude product potential risk factors.

In addition, the South China Sea Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau also reminded the improvement of the first product verification process. Toy production enterprises should have perfect first product verification procedures and implement them strictly before organizing scale production. Through the pre-production risk assessment meeting, all levels of product quality management personnel shall be confirmed at various levels, and samples shall be submitted for inspection through CNAS accredited laboratories. International toys safety standards testing and other ways to ensure the export of toy products meet relevant standards.

The South China Sea Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau stated that in recent years, due to the attention given to toy safety and the need for technical barriers by some developed countries, the technical standards have been continuously improved and the frequency of updates has been rapid. Manufacturers must promptly consult the latest technical standards of exporting countries before large-scale production. In 2009, there was an incident in the South China Sea caused by the increase in the lead content standard in the United States and the failure of export manufacturers to increase production standards in time.
